5 Simple Joys I’m Loving This Week

One of the things I’ve learned over the past few years is that joy doesn’t always come from the big, sweeping moments. More often than not, it’s tucked into the simple things — a favorite snack, a new book, a ritual that makes the day feel a little softer.

And sometimes, it’s the people who make life feel full. One of my greatest joys every summer is reconnecting with the same group of friends I met at the lake over 40 years ago. We grew up together through endless summer days and campfires— and even now, being with them feels like coming home.

This week, I thought I’d share a few of the little joys (and a big one!) that are making my summer days brighter.

1. My New Go-To Summer Dress

I’ve been living in this comfy, casual dress lately. It’s lightweight, flattering, and perfect for everything from errands to a casual dinner. Bonus: it has pockets (instant win).

2. A Book That Feels Like Summer

I’ve been diving into this book series, and it takes me right back to my lake days as a kid (even though it takes place in an ocean town)— the kind of read that feels like sunshine and nostalgia. If you haven’t seen the series on Prime Video, it’s a must also. And part of the 3rd season was just released!

3. A Snack That Doubles as Self-Care

My afternoon treat? Mid-Day Squares. End of story. It satisfies my chocolate craving while actually giving me a little protein boost.

4. A Game That Had Us Laughing Until Our Sides Hurt

We played Telestrations: After Dark two nights in a row this week, and I cannot remember the last time I laughed so hard. It’s inappropriate in all the right ways (definitely adults-only), and it was the perfect way to spend an evening with my lifelong friends. You can get the family friendly version of Telestrations here!

5. Quiet Evenings by the Lake

I’ve been spending more evenings outside, taking in the sunset. It’s a reminder that even 10 minutes of stillness can completely reset my mood. When the bugs come out at dusk, I’m ready with my bug zapper racket. 😂

Packing my days with little joys — whether it’s a good book, a hilarious game, or a quiet sunset — reminds me that contentment is found in the small things.

But more than anything, it’s the people who make these seasons meaningful. Those lifelong friends who know your history and still make you laugh until your sides hurt? They’re the true treasures of summer.

Your turn: What little joys are getting you through this week? I’d love to hear about them in the comments.
