So Much Fitness Advice, So Little Action

Lately, it feels like health and fitness advice overwhelm is coming from every angle. Podcasts, social media, articles and headlines. Instead of it all being motivating, it often leaves me completely frozen.

I want to do what’s right for my body at this stage of life. I care about my health. I’m making it a priority. But somewhere between all the conflicting advice, the science, the warnings, and the endless lists of “shoulds,” I sometimes find myself doing nothing because I don’t know which way to go with it.

I know I’m not the only one.

When information stops being helpful

The problem isn’t that we don’t care.

The problem is that there is so much information that it stops being helpful and starts feeling paralyzing.

One minute it’s:

  • eat more protein
  • but be careful with your kidneys
  • add fiber
  • but not too much
  • take creatine
  • unless you shouldn’t
  • lift heavy
  • but not too often
  • walk more
  • but also sprint
  • rest
  • but don’t slow down

It’s a lot.

And for those of us who don’t have a deep background in fitness or health science — but do want to feel strong, healthy, and capable — it can make every decision feel overwhelming. Like choosing the wrong thing might actually set us back.

So instead of taking action, we hesitate.

That’s not a motivation problem. That’s information overload.

Midlife changes the rules

Another piece of this finally clicked for me while listening to the Mel Robbins Podcast, where she interviewed Dr. Stacy Sims.  Dr. Sims is an exercise physiologist, nutrition scientist, author, and women’s health and fitness advocate. In this particular episode she talked about midlife women and fitness during the inevitable perimenopause and menopause phases of life.

What stood out wasn’t a massive to-do list. It was the reminder that:

  • our bodies do change at this stage of life
  • what worked before may not work the same way now
  • and none of that means we’ve done anything wrong

These changes happen whether we want them to or not. Understanding why things feel different helped me stop blaming myself for not responding the way I used to.

Sometimes clarity alone reduces frustration and overwhelm.

Fewer voices, more trust

That conversation also helped me realize something important:
I don’t need more advice. I need fewer voices.

Not all fitness or health advice is meant for me.
Not every trend applies to my body, my life, or my goals.

Instead of trying to absorb everything, I’m learning to:

  • limit the number of experts I listen to
  • choose voices that explain things clearly and realistically
  • find workouts and rituals that fit me and my needs

Finding one or two sources that feel aligned has been far more helpful than trying to follow twenty different approaches at once.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed too

If all of this sounds familiar, here’s what I want you to hear first:
You don’t need a perfect plan. You just need a starting point that feels doable.

I don’t have all the answers, but here’s what’s helping me:

  • Try different types of movement and notice how they make you feel.
A free YouTube workout, a walk, light strength training, stretching — none of it has to be permanent. Ask yourself: Do I feel better when I’m done?
  • You don’t need to be exhausted for it to count.
Movement doesn’t have to wipe you out. Feeling energized, clear-headed, or even just proud of yourself matters.
  • Strength training is important — but it doesn’t have to be extreme.
Yes, it’s recommended at this stage of life. But that doesn’t mean every day or long workouts. Even 10 minutes, two or three times a week, is a solid start.
  • Any movement is better than none.
    Consistency beats intensity. Every time.
  • Mindset matters more than we were ever taught.
Listening to motivating podcasts, reading a book, or following people who feel relatable can seriously help. Finding voices you trust can help build motivation and confidence.

I didn’t fully understand the importance of mindset until later in life — but now I see how much it affects everything, including how we care for our bodies. Mel Robbins and the experts and guests she hosts on her podcast episodes have been a huge source of inspiration and information for me. I am so grateful for what she provides!

    Choosing focus over overwhelm

When everything feels overwhelming, I don’t try to overhaul my health or fix my life. I reset the day.

    • I choose one supportive habit
    • I move.
    • I find a small inspiration piece for my day.

Progress doesn’t come from knowing everything.
It comes from choosing something manageable and doing it again tomorrow.

If fitness and health advice feels like a lot right now, so many are with you. 🙋🏼‍♀️ You’re navigating a lot.

I’m choosing focus over overwhelming information.
    Fewer voices.
    More trust in myself.

And for now, that feels like the right place to start.

Have You Been Feeling Like You Are Stuck In The Start-Stop Cycle?

If you’ve been stuck in the start-stop cycle, it doesn’t mean you lack discipline.

More often, it means the plan you chose didn’t fit your real life.

That’s exactly what led me to create the 3-Win Daily Momentum workshop.

Because the shift isn’t about doing more.
It’s about choosing a few things you can actually follow through on.

    Inside, you learn how to:

    • choose three realistic daily wins that make sense for your life
    • keep them small enough to stay consistent
    • and build momentum without starting over every time life gets busy

It’s not about big, dramatic change.

It’s about something steady you can come back to, even on the days that don’t go as planned.

Because momentum doesn’t come from doing everything perfectly.

It comes from doing a few things consistently.
