There’s something about this season — the lights, the reflection, the way life suddenly feels both busy and quiet — that makes me stop and take the time to remember my why. I honestly needed that reminder. Remembering your why brings you back to yourself again, especially when life starts pulling you in a dozen different directions.

Somewhere between blogging “shoulds,” SEO checklists, and trying to juggle real life… I forgot that this all began during the most difficult, reflective chapter of my life. The chapter where I lost two of my bests friends — my mom and my sweet Molly — within weeks of each other.
It still brings a lump to my throat when I write that.
But here’s the truth:
This blog wasn’t built according to the rulebook.
It was born out of grief, healing, and the desperate need to put joy back into my days when it felt hard to find.
And I know I’m not the only one who’s ever needed a place like that.
The Pressure to “Do It Right” Can Make You Forget Why You Started
Last night I read an article that said bloggers today should write more from the heart and less for Google, like it used to be long ago. It felt like someone tapped my shoulder and whispered, “Hey. This is for you.”
Because yes, SEO matters.
But not more than purpose.
Not more than connection.
Not more than doing the thing that feels good and true.
And definitely not more than honoring the people (and pets) who got you through life’s biggest challenges.
When I write about joy, I think of my mom.
When I write about comfort or home or the tiny moments that really matter… I think of Molly.
They’re in all of it — quietly, beautifully, without me having to force it.
And that’s when I realized something:
My blog works best when I stop trying so hard to “blog” and start letting myself write what I am truly feeling.
Joy is the Legacy
My mom brought joy to every normal day.
Molly brought joy to every walk and every tail thump that didn’t look like much but meant everything.
Of course they’d want me to keep going.
Of course they’d want this space to make someone feel seen, comforted and inspired.
If you’re reading this right now, my guess is you have your own “why.”
Maybe it’s someone you miss.
Maybe it’s a season of life that challenged you.
Whatever it is, don’t lose sight of it.
Your why is the thing that makes your writing or whatever it is that is that you are creating or doing matter.

If You Needed the Reminder, Here it is
You’re allowed to slow down.
You’re allowed to create from a place of meaning instead of urgency.
You’re allowed to build something beautiful at a human pace.
When you write from your heart…
When you share something that feels real…
When you follow your why…
People feel it.
Your words reach those that need them — the ones sitting in their own quiet moments, wondering how to keep moving forward with grace, humor, and a little hope.
So today, I’m honoring my mom and Molly the best way I know how:
by remembering why I started and continuing to share joy with the people who need it — just like they did for me.
And if you needed this too, I’m glad you found your way here.
